ABCs & 123s

I LOVE teaching your kids!  They are like sponges for new learning.  They also are obedient and sweet.  The best compliment this week was when we had guest speakers for Think Energy setting up in our room and so we were outside the classroom for a bit.  I gave the kids 4 instructions so that we could transform the room into a learning space for all 3 fourth grade classes to attend the Think Energy presentation.  They came right in the room and followed through the instructions efficiently and carefully.  The ladies who were presenting were so impressed with how well they did.  And I was so proud - you should be too!!!

That teacher is smiling so big because she just gave everyone a birthday treat of a caramel apple sucker and now the room is really quiet 😂😂

See you at the pole

Walk-a-thon day!

Think Energy presentation - we learned how energy works so that we could learn how to conserve it

Presenting our posters about how landscapes change over time

PIZZA PARTY - Thank you for your support of helping your child collect money for the walk-a-thon.  Our class was a grand prize winner!!!!!  We will be having a pizza party to celebrate on Wednesday, October. 1, so no need to pack a lunch for your child that day😁.

DUNE STUDY FIELD TRIP - On Friday we will be traveling to Spring Lake to participate in a 2-mile dune hike to explore the changes to land over time.  This trip is hosted by the Ottawa County Parks & Recreation Commission.  They are asking a few things of us:

   1. Make sure your child has a good breakfast before the field trip. We will expend a lot  of energy hiking outside on the trails and climbing the dune stairs.
2. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the variable weather conditions found  at Lake Michigan. Conditions are often windy and cooler than nearby locations away  from the lake. Dressing in layers is best as children can peel off an outer layer if they  get warm or put one back on if they get cold.
3.  Pack a sack lunch with a drink. Also, pack a separate small backpack (like a sling bag) with a snack and water bottle - your child will carry this on the hike. The lunch will stay on the bus while we hike.
4. Children should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. This way they can explore  without worrying about poison ivy, prickles, mosquitoes or stubbing their toes. They may want to apply sunscreen to their face and arms, depending on the forecast. Sunglasses or a hat may also be helpful - but only send them if they will be helpful😉.
5. Be prepared to climb 200+ steps up and down stairs.

Grandparent's Day - If your child will not have a special visitor on Thursday morning, please let me know as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Please take a moment to sign up for parent/teacher conferences using the information you received from Holland Christian Schools via email on Monday September 22.

THINK! Energy - On Thursday we had our Think! Energy with SEMCO program and your student brought home a free energy efficiency kit to help you save energy and water unless you opted out.

  • Please install the items you need and give things you cannot use to a friend or family member.  There are installation instructions inside the kit. (If it were me, I would scan the QR code for videos rather than reading the instructions.😉)

  • Help us earn funds for classroom supplies by doing a short survey called the Home Energy Worksheet (HEW) used to improve the program. Please complete the HEW by Friday, Oct. 10 by returning the paper to me or completing it online at https://thinkenergy.org/semco/hew with my ID number: 327691.

  • No kit? If you opted out of taking a kit, you can still benefit from the program. Do the energy audit from the program website at https://thinkenergy.org/semco/audit.
