ABCs & 123s

We've had a great week, and are happy to be back together following the erratic schedule during the recent snowy days.  You can even see sunshine glowing on the students as they work with their partners to make meter sticks.

Miss Crandell will be starting this coming week!

FIELD TRIP - As you know, our field trip to Hemlock Crossings (snowshoeing) was canceled due to the snow days.  It is now rescheduled for February 12.  We have space for another chaperone or two if you are interested in helping out.  Please just email me if you are willing and able.  Thanks so much!

FROM THE MUSIC ROOM - Recorder Karate was introduced in music this week.  Please look for a pink note that explains it in detail.  In addition, please check out my "Recorder Resource Doc" with links to additional resources and backup materials.

VALENTINE EXCHANGE - Students will have the opportunity to share Valentines with their classmates on Wednesday, February 11.  If your child chooses to participate, please plan for them to have an appropriate Valentine to share with everyone, not just their favorite friends.  I am sending home a pink class list today so your child can label their cards and check them off as they go.

CURRICULUM UPDATES:
Math - we've worked hard to understand two-step comparison word problems, and now we are ready to dive into measuring length.
Bible - We've spent time studying some of the Psalms and realizing that we can be open and honest with God about our feelings.  We also recognized that we can learn things about God's character by reading the Psalms.  Now we are studying the man of Solomon and his good decisions as well as his bad, and seeing how that affects his relationship with God, and the relationships of his people with God.  We will also look at some of his proverbs and apply that wisdom to our lives.
Reading - We are nearing the end of our informational reading unit.  We are investigating different types of information texts now (expository, narrative, hybrid, biographies).
Writing - We're writing information books on a topic we are already an expert.  We are learning different styles of text structure we can incorporate into our books and will soon be doing a little research to gather any facts we need to add to our books.
Grammar - We're exploring possessive nouns and pronouns and practicing using them.
Social Studies - We continue to explore the geography of the United States through maps and regions.

FROM THE ROSE PARK OFFICE:

  • Check your spam or junk mail! - we have heard from a few people in the Rose Park office that they have had e-mails from school go straight to their spam/junk mail. If you notice you’re missing things you typically receive check out your spam to see if your missing messages may be there!

  • Upcoming Dates:

    • February 13 & 16: No School

  • If you typically pick up your child(ren) via the Peace Lutheran’s parking lot please allow the buses to have the right of way, and give them plenty of space to operate as they have afternoon routes to accomplish safely. Please do not to walk in between buses and  stay on the Rose Park sidewalk to the very end (by the standing stone) before you “cross over” to the walkway as you walk together to the church. Thanks!
